And we're off!

Well, we left a little later than planned, but by Saturday afternoon we were on the road. Spent our first night in Winnemucca, NV. Got a quick start on Sunday morning, stopped for a picnic lunch with Meg & Mahmood in Elko. Made an impromptu stop at Bonneville Salt Flat Speedway. What an amazing find! Such a neat experience, I'll post some pics. Meg & Mahmood were ahead of us when arriving at our Sunday night spot. Unfortunately we hadn't made a reservation and the gate was closed. So they found a cute little fly fishing resort right beneath a HUGE dam! It was a little unsettling, but we slept well anyway.

Yesterday we swam in the Homestead Crater, a naturally formed crater fed by an underground spring with just a small opening in the top to see the sky through. Beautiful! Jeff logged in a couple of work hours and then we hit the road for Colorado. Last night we arrived, at midnight, (again!) in Glenwood Springs, CO.

That brings us to today. We gave the kids their choice of either white water rafting or ziplining, (they wanted to do both.) Maddie chose to zip line with her Auntie Meg, Jeff and I took Audrey, Lizzie, and Arianna rafting. I was nervous, but we had a great time. The kids did so well! We rafted for 2 1/2 hours on the Crystal, Roaring Fork, and Colorado Rivers. We got back in time to see Maddie & Meg finishing up their challenge course, they zipped over the Colorado River! They also tried the "Leap of Faith," in which they were on a platform 35 feet up and had to jump out to a trapeze handle that was five feet out and two feet up! Meg made it but slipped off, Maddie just jumped and didn't really try for the handle, (they were wearing harnesses of course.) Tomorrow we will hit the road again, it was nice to take a day off from driving.
